The company and the vision

Puglia Termica is a leading distributor of plumbing equipment products in Southern Italy.
Founded in 1986 in Martina Franca (TA), it grew quickly thanks to the passion and know-how of the founder and his sons, with their new ideas and enormous dedication to the business.

With a turnover of EUR 60 million and 150 employees, two sales counters, a logistics hub, and an extensive network of agents, Puglia Termica stands out from the competition thanks to its outstanding customer service, fast deliveries throughout Italy, and large stock of products.
Needs and challenges
Puglia Termica quickly grew the business, and the old management system was no longer able to handle the company's needs: the owners realised that they needed a reliable, innovative, integrated, scalable and high-performance solution. With great openness to change, they know that the most important challenge starts at the heart of the company: reorganising and optimising all processes, restructuring departments for efficient and fast organisation, always at the disposal of their increasingly demanding customers.

A major expansion project in logistics drives management towards innovation, and calls for a wide-ranging management system capable of growing with the company

The choice

After a careful internal analysis, Puglia Termica decided to set up a SW tender.

The owners wanted not only the best management solution, but also the best partner to support it.
In the Var BMS team, Puglia Termica saw extensive process know-how and the specific competencies it required from a reliable partner.

The choice fell on SAP S/4HANA: once again, Puglia Termica distinguished itself with ambition by ignoring preconceptions (“too inflexible!”, “too expensive!”, “blocks business!”) and recognising that, in reality, SAP’s best practices make management rigorous and organised, appreciating well-defined and always traceable workflows, which do not interfere with processes, but rather optimise them by forcing the company to structure and organise itself.

The custom add-ons developed by Var BMS to manage agent commissions, sales incentives, supplier bonuses and electronic invoicing played an important role in the choice.

These are industry-specific solutions capable of automating and governing key aspects of the distribution business with its dense network of specialised agents and wide range of suppliers. One the one hand, these tools monitor and improve efficiency in the management of commissions, bonuses and supplier bonuses, and on the other hand, they incentivise the company's sales force by better managing the agent commissions cycle.

In Var BMS, Puglia Termica has found a single partner capable of not only providing SAP SW licences and implementation services, but also the Var Hub electronic invoicing portal and the HW structure of the Var Group data centre.
The project

The project touched all areas of the business, from administration to logistics, purchasing to sales, management control to interfacing with a plurality of external systems, and led to a profound reorganisation of the company, increasingly marked by innovation.

Var BMS proposed a collaborative approach focused on Design Thinking, in which each key user is able to contribute to the reorganisation process by expressing the strengths and weaknesses of each department to better achieve their objectives.

From the outset, Puglia Termica took a proactive approach, adapting to the new logic of digital ERP with great intelligence.

Thanks to the passion, strong commitment and know-how of all participants, the project was highly successful, and Puglia Termica has now achieved a good degree of autonomy in using the system.

SAP is an integrated system, so every action has an effect on all departments: this means that everyone is encouraged to work to the highest standards, to the benefit of the whole company.

Current and expected benefits

Puglia Termica now has access to real-time business data that gives them control at all times:

up-to-date stock inventories (account management, delivery time scheduling, availability control)
stock valorisation
marginality control
overdraft control
a solid and reliable database
effective tracking of changes

In adopting SAP S/4HANA, Puglia Termica has laid solid foundations for the future of the company: it is the launchpad for its continued growth, in an efficient and optimised manner.

The choices it has made, the competency of its people, the high quality of the services it provides and the boost given by the SAP project will enable Puglia Termica to achieve its ambitious goals.

The company is continuously expanding, now even stronger and better structured thanks to its digital reorganisation.
