MEF (Materiale Elettrico Firenze) has been an electrical equipment distributor for over 50 years.

Passion is undoubtedly the driving force behind this company which, thanks to its flexible, modern organisation, offers a variety of high-quality products and services. MEF's capacity is also clearly reflected in its figures: 680 employees, 43 sales outlets in 6 Italian regions, and over 30,000 items processed a year. In 2015, MEF became a member of the Würth Group, the world's leading distributor of electrical equipment with operations in over 80 countries.
MEF went through a major evolutionary transition that required the right approach and appropriate technological tools
Expansion into other regions, the creation of a logistics hub on the outskirts of Florence, and strong growth that has seen a doubling of turnover in six years - all these led MEF to look for an integrated ERP to better structure their internal processes and, above all, to support the ambitious development planned for the near future. While remaining within the guidelines dictated by the Würth Group, after a careful selection of solutions on the market, the choice fell on SAP, mainly due to the knowledge of the sector and the quality of the consultancy provided by Var BMS, the SAP Competence Centre of the Var Group.
The ERP solution chosen was SAP S/4HANA customised with specific add-ons for MEF's industrial environment
The transition to the new ERP, completed during the pandemic, improved collaboration and offered new opportunities. It was an opportunity to redesign and optimise numerous business processes in line with the Würth Group’s model, thus providing MEF with a valuable map for implementing SAP S/4HANA at MEB, another Würth Group company in Italy, as well as at any other similar company they might acquire in the future.
A real change management that transformed their daily operations
Given the strong focus on improving business processes, the SAP project enabled everyone involved to better understand their internal flows and to realise that the company's efficiency is based on collaboration and integration between its various departments. Thanks to SAP everything is now much clearer in terms of who does what and how; moreover, the company is now ready to handle the growth resulting from the opening of its new branches planned for the near future, and its expansion into other regions; a digitalisation path that will accompany MEF in the growth of its online business and specialisation in its various market segments.
