“Today, you simply can’t run a company in an organised, efficient way without the help of management software.”
- Massimiliano Zanelli, Head of Information Systems at Gaja Wineries. The company recently adopted the Wine software from Apra Informatica - Var Group Company.
“At the present time,” Zanelli continues, “thanks to the gradual introduction of the Wine program, the company is already making significant improvements in key areas, including administration, sales and logistics.

Wine is a complete, flexible product with enormous potential. The company's strategy is to implement the Wine modules gradually, so as to limit the inevitable impact of change on users - and sometimes even the organisation itself. The old management system is currently being replaced, and this will be followed by implementing the new technologies offered by Wine, computerising the control and management of certain production operations that we still prefer to do manually for the time being. Step by step change is still my preferred option, when possible, as it gives the company a chance to assimilate even major changes well.

By the end of the year, a further implementation of Wine will be available to the Gaja group’s agents: each of them will be able to connect securely to the company and thus be able to manage their orders autonomously and, above all, in real time, including tracking shipments to the customer. The two Tuscany wineries are also managed remotely, from where authorised users can access Barbaresco's central system to create and manage their documents and obtain all the necessary information with Wine’s control panels, up to autonomously compiling statistics and gathering data for an up-to-date snapshot of their situation.

Autonomy and simplicity save time

The Wine software was chosen primarily because it immediately proved to be extremely flexible and user-friendly, features that enable the program to be customised by the client without necessarily depending on the supplier.
Problems can thus be solved as soon as they emerge, thus avoiding long waits for costly modifications to the software. The ease of use of the program is evidenced by the fact that Gaja’s operators were trained in its use over just a few days, under the guidance of Apra Informatica’s technicians. Massimiliano Zanelli is also extremely satisfied with the service, which he says is provided by competent and capable staff with an excellent technical background. Young, dynamic people it’s very easy to work with. This was an important factor in our choice.

Gaja is not just Barbaresco: Gaja Wines produces a total of 350,000 bottles a year, 75% of which are sold abroad and 25% in Italy. However, the flagship wine is still certainly Barbaresco, which has been produced for 150 years. In addition to its wineries in Piedmont and Tuscany, Gaja Distribuzione, founded in 1977 by Angelo Gaja to offer the Italian market a selection of wines and accessories from other countries, is also part of the group. Among others, Gaja Distribuzione is the Italian importer of Austrian Riedel to the hotel, restaurant and wine shop sector.
