Oleificio Zucchi is Italy's leading producer of own-brand and private-label olive oil and seed oils and a supplier of bulk oils for the food industry and hospitality sector, with a significant international presence.
Founded in 1810, the company has its headquarters and factory in Cremona: the modern production lines, equipped with the latest technology, have a capacity of around 500 tonnes/day of refined oil and 1,500,000 litres/day of packaged oil.
With a turnover of € 189,000,000 in 2016, Oleificio Zucchi is constantly committed to the development and innovation of a traceable, sustainable, certified supply chain, and is up-to-date with the latest technical and plant engineering knowledge.
And right here, in our “Oil Cellar”, we have Italy's largest temperature-controlled storage facility, capable of preserving up to 4,800 tonnes of extra virgin olive oil while preserving all its properties and characteristics.
Over our more than two centuries of history, each generation has always brought something new to keep up with the changes of an ever-evolving market, while keeping our values of environmental care, ethics, quality and safety firmly in mind.
At this stage of our company's life, we have embarked on a path of technological innovation to support our established corporate culture and promote new models of business.
Focus on innovation in production and quality processes

A fluctuating price of oil, complex relationships with the large-scale retail trade, the yield of the refining process and the need for efficient packaging systems - these are all determining aspects of our market.
In manufacturing, it is crucial to monitor the efficiencies and inefficiencies of work order processes, to keep track of stock levels in real time and to optimise factory processing.

In the financial field, the precise definition and allocation of costs to the individual product per customer results in a granular, precise marginality that has always been our lodestone, the key element on the basis of which we set our prices and define our market strategies: we have always managed this, at every level, but with systems that were not interfaced and integrated with each other, so it took time to align data between them and we therefore risked being late with respect to requirements.

We therefore realised that we had to take action to refine and speed up our data acquisition in order to obtain a clear view of business trends, while also making strategic decisions in a timely and reasoned manner for the production and sales channels in question.

Increased responsiveness and competitiveness with SAP and BMS, Var Group Company

To be more responsive in an ever-changing scenario and to give a significant boost to the business by further improving the quality of our product and our offering to our clients, we needed to simplify the existing IT architecture, characterised by a series of departmental applications the data from which then had to be transferred by hand to the older generation management system.
We needed to turn that data into solid, correct information to improve our operational efficiency and defend our margins.

This focus on data and the need for timely trend analysis are the key factors that led us to choose SAP ERP, a unique, integrated and scalable system that supports the rationalisation of internal processes and ensures efficient governance for the company.

With SAP ERP, in addition to obtaining certain and unambiguous data, we have drastically improved the timing of analyses, and this allows us to better attack the market, and revise or confirm our strategies in real time: the speed and efficiency of our reporting has increased by 30% (from quarterly to monthly) and this has made us even more competitive.

BMS, a Var Group company, and qualified SAP partner with expertise in our sector, facilitated our optimisation and innovation path.
Taking SAP Best Practices as the best solutions, already tried and tested by other companies in the same sector, the project was completed in consideration of the specificity and differentiating elements of Oleificio Zucchi.

BMS supports us on a daily basis, and has proved to be always ready to handle project criticalities with constructive solutions and suggestions.

Future developments

Our SAP ERP is a facilitator in optimising and accelerating business processes, and is able to grow with us: we would therefore like to extend it to other areas of our business, like HR; we would also like to implement the SAP Business Intelligence solution to provide data in a synthetic and synoptic form, making it available to each department for efficient, collaborative and increasingly result-oriented decision making.
